Funerals

End-of-life ceremonies

Pay tribute to your loved one with a custom, heartfelt funeral or memorial that is both beautiful and unforgettable.

The death of a loved one or family member  is  a very difficult time and can be quite overwhelming. Deciding on how you would like the funeral  can be daunting. Some people wish to make it more of a celebration of the life that has been, for others a quieter service ,  honouring and acknowledging the loss is their preference.

After I have met with you, I will write  a  service that conveys the true essence of your loved one, their humour, their life story and experiences and their values. You can rest assured that it will be written and delivered with empathy and compassion. I have suffered two very great losses in my life and feel well placed to support families through the difficult time in which they find themselves.

I  will work closely with your chosen funeral director to create and provide the service that your loved one, you and your family wish to take place.

The funeral director will carefully guide you through the funeral process and I will work alongside them and you to understand and follow your service plan.

I will sensitively compose a tribute that reflects your loved one and I will give you every opportunity to edit it until it is perfect .

If you or a family member or friend wishes to make a personal tribute during the service, I can provide help and support both before and during the service.

Funerals, Ashes Scatterings, Memorials and End of Life Ceremonies

At the time of the death of a loved one or family member it can be difficult to think clearly about how you would wish for their funeral to be. Some wish to make it a celebration of the life that has been, for others a quieter honouring and acknowledgement of the loss is their preference and need.

This is where it may help to have a Celebrant come and sit with you, to talk about your wishes and those of the deceased, if they had been discussed previously. It is then my 'task' as Celebrant to pull together all the elements and weave them into a Ceremony that feels right for all parties; albeit a full burial service and graveside blessing or a shorter Crematorium Ceremony. It may be that there has already been a cremation at an earlier time, so that a ceremony for the scattering of ashes is required. This can be in a special or meaningful place and a time of closeness for friends and family members, with appropriate words to allow for the healing process to begin.

Memorial Ceremonies take place separately after a funeral where the individual is remembered and their life is celebrated and their loss acknowledged. These ceremonies are created in the same way, through close liaison and the support of those who are involved in the planning process.

Sometimes as individuals approach the time of their death they have a desire to make plans for their own funerals or would just like someone other than loved ones to talk to about their experience. I can offer a service of visiting, listening and planning that may be cathartic to both the individual and their family and friends, all knowing that their wishes are being heard, to later be carried out.
What is a Funeral Celebrant?
If you'd prefer a funeral ceremony which reflects your loved one and celebrates their life, you've come to the right place. I work with families who would rather take the focus off religion and instead zone in on their loved one.

I focus on their character, relationships, achievements, and all of the things they enjoyed to do whilst they were here. This type of ceremony is perfect for those who are non-religious.

Its also a great option if you're looking for a more human approach. Step away from the generic and experience a much more personal and bespoke ceremony.
I am here to provide you and your family with support during this challenging time. image
At the meeting please have with you anyone who you think might make a significant contribution in helping me understand the life of your loved one and what made them special. This would normally, but not exclusively, be close family members and/or close friends. If there are peopIe who you would like to be at the meeting, but they cannot make it then please either write their stories down in advance of meeting me, or ask them to email me their memories directly. It helps if people have thought about stories before they meet with me. I recognise that you are going through a very tough time and will deal with you and your families and friends in a professional and sympathetic manner. If anyone is emailing me, then please let me know so that, if I need to, I can check with you that the email has arrived. I may ask your permission to record the meeting as an aide memoire for my preparations. Any such recordings are deleted as soon as the eulogy has been confirmed.

At the meeting, I aim to get a clear understanding of who your loved one was. Some examples of information you might share with me are, stories about their passions and interests; the highlights of their life; their jobs and memorable holidays; things that made them laugh, and daily routines.
At the meeting we will also talk about some of the practicalities of the service – we will discuss any songs, hymns and music. We will come to decisions about any poetry or prose. We will also decide whether anyone in the family or friendship group will be participating directly in the service. On the day of the service, I will arrive in good time to greet you at the venue and will conduct the service in a professional and dignified manner.

If you have chosen a cremation service, then it might be that at some point in the future you wish to scatter your loved ones ashes at a special place or inter them in a family plot.

Should you wish a short ceremony for this, then please get in touch with me directly and we can arrange to do this. This is in addition to any previous service I have offered and is at a price of £70. My fees are inclusive of all travel (within 30 miles of Droitwich) preparation time and the actual service itself.
